Kiss Me, Kate
Carissa McClintock (Hattie), backed by chorus cast members Liesl Bittner and Joe Perrotti,
belts out opening number, "Another Op'nin', Another Show."
Bret Sloan (as director Fred Graham) and Jamie Agnello (as leading lady Lilli Vanessi)
rehearse Lilli's curtain call as Terri Gilmore (as actress Lois Lane) looks on.
The Franklin Civic-Operetta celebrated its
51st season with the musical-comedy, "Kiss
Me, Kate," about a touring troupe in 1948
performing Shakespeare's "The Taming of  the
Shrew"  in town after town.
It's a hilarious play-within-a-play, with the two
stars (Bret Sloan and Jamie Agnello) duking it
out onstage and behind the scenes. The Cole
Porter classics, "So In Love," "Too Darn Hot,"
"From This Moment On" and "Wundebar" are
bound to be familiar to many theater-goers.
Under the direction of  Ted Smith, a.k.a. The
Wizard, the musical comedy is mixed into an
entertaining brew that Shakespeare himself
would surely have enjoyed.
Jacob Krupitzer (left to right), Terri Gilmore,
Joe Perrotti and Marc Holland harmonize on
the jazzy, "Tom, Dick or Harry."
Choreographer Christine Fornof  created splashy
production numbers for the show. The rest of  the
production staff  includes director Ted Smith, music
director Peter Greene, producers Carolyn Jamison and
Mary Ann Richardson, accompanist Kristen Criado,
stage manager Rosie Petulla, costume designer Brenda
Agnello, lighting designer Sam Levy, set designer Ed
Ramage, sound designer Dave Weaver, and property
designer Barnaby Fricklemyer.
Petruchio pleads for Katherine's hand in marriage after
cutting a deal with her father, Baptista (right), that
includes a rich dowry.
Chris Marshall (above, left) brilliantly overplays  Baptista, Kate's father.  His large, dramatic
flourishes and slightly-off  delivery  work especially well in scenes with Bret Sloan (Petruchio),
below.
Flanked by twins
Aaron and
Andrew Ritsig,
Bret Sloan (left to
right), Jamie
Agnello, Terri
Gilmore and Jacob
Krupitzer sing of
life on the road in
the comical "We
Open in Venice."
Decisions, decisions
for Bianca (Terri
Gilmore) as she must
decide between
potential suitors "Tom,
Dick or Harry," who
are (left to right) Marc
Holland as Gremio,
Jacob Krupitzer as
Lucentio and  Joe
Perrotti as Hortensio.
Lovers Bill Calhoun (Jacob
Krupitzer)  and Lois Lane
(Terri Gilmore) duet to
"Why Can't You Behave?"
Actress Lilli Vanessi (Jamie Agnello) in her dressing room
which features posters of  her past projects.
Lilli (Jamie Agnello) proudly shows off  her engagement ring
to her ex-husband/co-star, Fred (Bret Sloan).
