deliver a 21-gun salute at the Soldiers Circle in Franklin Cemetary,
where two dozen Union soldiers are buried.

Franklin native Donald "Mike" McNany, a retired submarine
commander, was the guest speaker at the ceremony in Bandstand Park.
McNany returned to his hometown to care for his ailing father, a
Korean War veteran, and spoke proudly of being able to give his dad a
tour of the oldest and newest American submarines on the same day.
Flowers were tossed into French Creek from the 13th Street
Bridge in honor of veterans lost at sea.The service was conducted
by Franklinites (from left) Lona Burke (V.P. VFW Auxiliary),
Tami Duda (President VFW Aux.), Wanda Anderson (Chaplain
American Legion Aux.) and Charlene Geib (Vietnam veteran).
Judy Fulkerson (right) placed a wreath on the cross for the Persian Gulf War
during the South Park service, and other wreaths were placed for fallen
American soldiers dating back to the Revolutionary War.
The Silver Cornet drumline included Nathan Frye (from left), Amy Ivell
and Toby Salterelli. The Franklin community band dates back to 1856.
Oil City Girl Scouts Emma McBride (left), 7, and Cara Andres, 8, lead their compatriots in the Memorial Day Parade.
