The Venango County courthouse
dates back to the 1868, several years
after the oil boom began in northwest
PA. The story goes that a competition
was held to see who could create the
best downtown parks, and Franklin
won out over Oil City. The animosity
that sometimes continues to this day
may have its roots in the epic city
park battle of the mid-nineteenth
century.

is now the Wild West Museum.

doctor, with numerous Greco-Roman statues, massive stonework and all the amenities.
