Applefestivities
Rage For Days
Applefest 2009
Beginning simply with pie baking and pie
eating competitions in 1982, Franklin's
Applefest now draws numerous crowds
for the popular 5K Race down Liberty St.
(above), and the dozens of crafters and
food vendors that fill the city's two
beautiful downtown parks.
Live music was featured throughout the
three-day event, and activities for
children were offered at Bandstand Park.
Aaron Burkhardt (top, left), 6, of
Franklin and Chase Upchurch, 12,
of Titusville took first place in their
divisions at the YMCA's Children's
Race, which preceded the 5K Race.
Franklin native Leah Shouey Ahlin (above) of Monroeville placed first
in the women's division, and Jeff Weiss (right) of Slippery Rock was
the first to cross the finish line in the Applefest 5K Race.
John McConnell of Franklin
sang for the downtown
wedding, and Dennis Geib
accompanied on the organ.
